What are Nameservers?
Nameservers are a critical part of the Domain Name System (DNS). They tell the internet where to find your domain's DNS records, which ultimately point to your website and email server.
-
They typically look like:
ns1.koelhost.comandns2.koelhost.com(this is an example, check your Koelhost welcome email for the exact ones). -
Changing nameservers means you are moving DNS control to a different provider. If you transfer your domain to Koelhost, you might point your nameservers to Koelhost to use their hosting services.
How to Change Nameservers
You change the nameservers at the registrar where the domain is currently registered (this might be Koelhost or your previous registrar if you haven't transferred it).
-
Log in to your domain registrar's control panel.
-
Navigate to the Domain Management or DNS Management section for your domain.
-
Look for the option to Change Nameservers (sometimes labeled Name Server Settings).
-
Replace any existing nameservers with the nameservers provided by Koelhost.
-
Save the changes.
Propagation Time: Nameserver changes can take 24 to 48 hours to fully update across the entire internet (this is called DNS propagation). Your website and email may be temporarily inaccessible during this time.
